Genetically, the number of melanocytes present in our skin determines our skin colour. Production of melanin is also dependent on UV or sun exposure, and is a natural protective mechanism of the skin.

Is laser treatment painful?

For most of our clients, the procedure is quite comfortable and tolerable. To enhance your comfort, an anaesthetic cream is applied on the skin prior to the laser treatment. The laser feels like a gentle “warm prickling” sensation on the skin.

Is there any downtime?

There may be mild flushing which often resolves after several hours. For certain superficial pigmentation, there may be localized redness lasting a few days.

How many sessions are needed?

Usually 3-6 sessions are required to see good results. Depending on the severity, type and extent of the pigmentation, some individuals may require more sessions.

Are all types of laser are same?

No. Different types of lasers are used to treat different skin conditions. Even lasers of a similar category but manufactured by different laser companies can give you vastly different results. This is true for equipment from computers to cars, and it certainly holds true for lasers. At Clinic RX, we only use reliable and high grade lasers for all our procedures.

Are there any precautions to take before and after treatment?

Prior to the treatment, clients should not undergo tanning. After the treatment, it is recommended to avoid extreme sun exposure and apply sunblock of SPF 30 or higher prior to sun exposure. Also, to apply moisturiser and hydrating mask regularly.

Is it important to choose an experienced doctor?

Currently, there are numerous centres offering laser services but not all have a qualified doctor. Although laser machines are effective for treating pigmentation, they are operator dependant and side effects may occur with improper handling.

One of the more common and misleading misconceptions is that faster results can be obtained by increasing the frequency of laser treatments. However, the truth is, excessive laser treatments may result in mottled hypopigmentation, a condition characterized by simultaneous dark and light patches in the skin.

At Clinic RX, we only use award winning, FDA approved laser machines. We also take efforts to ensure our doctors are all qualified to perform laser treatments and are well-equipped to handle the laser machines for all indications
